Bug Description
From /var/log/auth.log I could see that LightDM does not remove the "+" in front of the username from /etc/passwd, which in NIS compat mode is syntax for a network identification based account. Consequently, the login is refused with "bad username". However, in the graphical login screen it says password incorrect, which is also wrong and misleading.
I'm using Kubuntu 14.04. A workaround for me was to login on console (CTRL+Alt+F1) and install kdm as a replacement for LightDM.
