Bug Description

I can create a simple lightdm.conf file that looks like this:

[SeatDefaults]
xdmcp-manager=xxx.xxx.xxx.xx

When I reboot my Ubuntu 12.04 machine, I see the login program for the XDMCP server as I would expect. I can log into that machine and it works great.

When I log out of the XDMCP server machine, I get a blank screen with an arrow cursor and a green checkmark in the middle right of the screen.

If I restart lightdm, I get the login prompt that I would have expected to see after I logged out of the XDMCP server.

Is there another setting necessary to allow login and logout using the xdmcp-manager capabilities?

Thanks,

-Tom

That should be all you need. Could you attach /var/log/lightdm/lightdm.log and /var/log/lightdm/x-0.log please?

I've got another clue. It turns out the remote login graphics are actually there, but the white and gray colors are now black, just like the background color. If I type in my username and password, I can log into the remote machine and the desktop comes up. The desktop colors look a little odd at first (too much black) and then it refreshes and the desktop looks fine. When I logout, the screen is black again except for the arrow cursor and the green checkmark that is part of the remote login graphics.

Any idea how my colormap (or whatever) is getting screwed up?

Thanks.

My remote server is running Red Hat Enterprise Linux. The default remote login graphics are called 'Standard' and they are very simple. I used gdmsetup on the remote server to change the remote login graphics to be 'Graphic' and now I am able to login, and then logout, and I see the login prompt displayed correctly.

I'm not sure why the simple graphics won't show up, but I'm content with this work around.

Thanks for looking at this.
