Bug Description

The login window's position in lightdm-gtk-greeter is fixed and can't be adjusted without patching the code. This is OK if you're using the default image, as that's been created with the position in mind. However, if you're using your own image, the window may cover up an important element, or the screen might look better with it in a different position. Having a way to adjust this would be nice.

This would be a nice feature to have. I also use a custom background and I would love the ability to configure the position!

Thanks,

Yes I would really be nice to move around the greeter.
I would like to request this simple wish.

Is it possible to include this in the next official release of LightDM? I have no idea whether or not this goes along with your philosophies, but I'll just say for now that this seems like a useful, simple, and reasonable feature to be added to LightDM.

Don't ask me, I'm just the guy who made the suggestion. I have no idea, as yet, how to adjust the window because I haven't had time to look at the various config files. I'd appreciate it if somebody could add a comment here giving us a pointer to instructions on how to do this.

Please see the configuration details on this post: http://smdavis.us/2013/12/28/lightdm-gtk-greeter-1-7-0-released

Basically, in lightdm-gtk-greeter.conf, you set the position setting:

position=x y

Where x and y are the x/y coordinates, and can be relative positioning (positive numbers are indexed from top/left, negative botton/right) or percentages.

Sean,

I appreciate you programming this feature.

I read the post at http://smdavis.us/2013/12/28/lightdm-gtk-greeter-1-7-0-released
prior to submitting my question.
It did not mention Ubuntu Studio 12.04.3 LTS or Precise Pangolin as supported.
So, I was wondering if you were eventually planning to make it supported back to 12.04 ?

I also tried editing the /etc/lightdm/lightdm-gtk-greeter.conf file on my laptop
(for example, adding a line
                  position = 20% 80%
but it and several other percentage variations tried had no effect on the login position on
Ubuntu Studio 12.04.3 LTS and using Xfce.
So, something else must be involved to make this work on the 12.04 release.

I am not sure what release of lightdm greeter is on my system, but when I tried to
get the latest from the PPA, it stated I was on the latest release (probably latest for
Ubuntu Studio 12.04.3 LTS) though.
