vertical panel has a horizontal pattern

xubuntu 12.04, ambience, xfce using a vertical panel (laptop, left side)
--> repeated pattern of the rounded design because the whole window buttons area is filled with the shaded/rounded element from top to bottom.
best solution: rotate & stretch the graphics element for vertical panes. or drop it, because currently it just looks weird.

I think I know what your talking about. But Do you have a screenshot by any change? I want to make sure I'm thinking of the same thing.

current workaround is to switch that to "Solid Color".

Thanks for fallowing up and the screen shot.

Unfortunately the option to inherit the panel background from the theme it's self only half works for xfce. (Some widgets don't get themed unless the panel background is specified manually )

The best fix is as you noted to rotate the panel background image .png then select the image as a panel background. (As noted in the above guide.)

I will see if there is anything else I can do to fix this, But If not I will include 2 new panel images, right_panel and left panel.png background to be used with sideways panels.

Thanks for bringing this up it will be a good thing to fix and support. Let me know if you come across anything else that may fix it.
