Hello Finch, thanking you filing a bug report about the issue with the webcam on the Asus X17SL 17-inch laptop and I apologise that this bug report was temporarily closed with a messaging asking you to go elsewhere. You're in the right place and we'll try to further direct this to a suitable place.

Is the upsidedown webcam built into the laptop itself; or is it a free-standing separate USB camera (with a long cable attached)?

I also like to try and help you with the problem to do with networking and having to chance the date in your BIOS. Could you try to explain (using different words) what that issue is to help me understand?

Please can both of you run:

and:

then attach/paste the output into this bug report.

finch20: perhaps could you try writing in your native language aswell---and we'll try to help translate it; at the moment I'm still having trouble understand (thank you for trying!).

And, libv4l-0.6.2 has _not_ been packaged in Debian/Ubuntu, yet.

Hi,

I'm the author of libv4l, I've fixed the DMI strings in my tree, you can download a snapshot here:
http://people.atrpms.net/~hdegoede/libv4l-0.6.2-test.tar.gz

And there are testing instructions for installing from source here:

Please let me know if this fixes things for you.

I'm not an ubuntu contributor (not even a user), so you can best compile it for yourself, the compile instructions are tested on ubuntu, so they should work fine.

Hi
I have Asus K51AE, I use Ubuntu 64bit and have problem with up side down picture from built in camera.
I used your libv4l-0.6.4-test.tar.gz or even the lates one from ppa:libv4l/ppa, I used Ubuntu multilib instruction and all I get is a mirror changed picture instead of up side down.

Can you help me? Thanks
