I do not have this issue.

Are you using gmail's IMAP services? I may be completely off, but sometimes when I get bug mail from Lauchpad, gmail likes to show an unread message in my "Sent" folder from my email address.

Just giving an idea off :).

I have the same problem. Using Gmail via IMAP. I get two notifications, and two items in the indicator-applet. Using the experimental version of the add-on.

Could you please retest this with the code from trunk? (link at the top under related branches)
Thanks in advance!

I will test it and report, but the *really* funny thing is that this time I got only one :/

I've fetched and built the add-on through the trunk branch, I can confirm I only get one notification bubble. Attached a screenshot.

Using Ubuntu 10.04 RC, Thunderbird version 3.0.4+nobinonly-0ubuntu4

On the other hand, the messaging applet is acting a bit strange: It responds to the received mail (the mail icon goes green), but unless there is a new email, it doesn't show Thunderbird as running (no tan triangle that usually indicates an app is running), and I also noticed it sometimes adds another Thunderbird entry. Note that I had to manually add thunderbird.desktop file to /usr/share/indicator/menu. But this should probably be filed as a separate bug, and when the messaging menu feature goes to the stable branch.

I was having this same problem, but it wasn't consistent. In my case, it had nothing to do with Gmail, but was occurring on a standard POP3 account. I reinstalled with the code from trunk and it hasn't happened since then; I will let you know if it does.

Thanks for all your work on this add-on and your timely response to bugs and questions. I think this add-on is an essential element to fully integrate TB into Lucid, so I really appreciate your efforts here.

OK, I have some more information on this. Let's assume I start with an empty Inbox:

(1) When I receive a new message, I get the notification as expected. Screenshot at: http://state.tc/imgs/tb-libnotify-0min.png.

(2) After waiting for 1+ minutes, without receiving any new messages and without checking my Inbox, if I look at the indicator menu again, it shows two separate entries for the same Inbox, each indicating one new message, but with different elapsed times. At this time, there is only one new message in my Inbox, but there are two notifications. Screenshot at: http://state.tc/imgs/tb-libnotify-1min.png.

(3) After sending another test message, and still without checking my Inbox, things seem to behave as expected. Now I have two messages waiting, and the indicator shows two messages. Screenshot at: http://state.tc/imgs/tb-libnotify-2msgs.png.

The other odd thing is, after two or more messages are present, the indicator always shows "0 min" even if more time has elapsed since the message arrived.

I hope this is helpful. Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to help troubleshoot.

Cheers,
Jeremy

I just built libnotify-mozilla from trunk. Here is my situation.

- I am getting notifications
- I have 2 (two) entries for Mozilla Thunderbird in the indicator-applet. One entry shows the messages (and constantly shows 0m). The second entry is permanently empty and has no activity at all.
- The envelope icon turns black, that's good, but after several seconds without any activity in TB the icon turns back to normal color and if I click on the envelope, the only entry I see is an empty TB (beside the other pidgin, etc.). Basically TB entry show nothing.

I can confirm these except the turning black bug.

But the real reason I am posting is to give you, Ruben Verweij, a big tip of the hat for all the hard work you've done thus far. If you ever need any help, we all would love to help you.

I am also experiencing the same problem. I get 2 alerts in 1 notification bubble for the same new email. I think this is what's causing the problem.

By default, TB3 is set to subscribe to the Archive (All Mail) folder when you use Gmail IMAP. Thus whenever you receive a new mail, it will show up as unread in both the "Inbox" and "All Mail" folder. Both of these unread mails show up as 2 notifications for the same email.

When I unsubscribe the All Mail folder, and then do a test email, I only get 1 notification.

Syanide noted that when he tried to reproduce the problem, he only got 1 instead of 2 notifications. This is because when you send and email to yourself (the same email), Gmail treats the All Mail copy as the "sent" copy and does not make it unread. Thus to replicate this problem, you should send an email from say, hotmail.

A possible solution / wishlist will be to the option to select the Thunderbird folders that are monitored for notification upon receiving new mails.
