Libnotify notifies arrival of Thunderbird news messages

Bug Description

When newsgroup items arrive in Thunderbird, libnotify notifies their arrival. The built-in Thunderbird indicator does not do this and neither did Ubunutu Notify in Thunderbird 2. I would at least like to see the option to turn off the notification of news messages, since they are arriving continually and I do not wish to be notified of them. Thanks.

Thank you for this bug report.
I have provided the functionality in trunk, could you please try whether it works or not if you enable/disable the option?
Just open a terminal, type "bzr branch lp:libnotify-mozilla", then "cd libnotify-mozilla" and finally "./". This will generate a .xpi file which you can install in Thunderbird. Thanks in advance!

Changed in libnotify-mozilla:
assignee: nobody → Ruben Verweij (ruben-verweij)
importance: Undecided → Wishlist
status: New → Fix Committed

Thanks for the patch, this appears to work as designed ie news group items are not notified if the option is disabled.

One thing I would add is that when the option is enabled, it appears that the arrival of news items is not always notified. I think that this was also the case before I installed the trunk version. (I am using Thunderbird 3.0 installed from Mozilla.)

Unfortunately I was too quick to reply. The arrival of news items still gets notified even if the option is disabled. However, as I noted in my prious post, it appears that not all news items get notified. I cannot work out a pattern however.
