Bug Description

I am experiencing this problem with a non-default icon theme (Numix icons).

I have two layouts: English and Latin American. When I switch layouts (with Shift+Shift_R) from English to Spanish, the indicator disappears. When I switch back to English, the indicator reappears.

I've checked with adding a third layout, but the indicator won't show unless the layout is set to English (my default layout).

Hi, I'm having problems replicating this. When the indicator disappears, is indicator-keyboard-service still running?

@attente Yes, I checked and indicator-keyboard-service is still running.

@edwinpm5 When the indicator is visible, and you open the menus, do you see the 'Es' icon in the menu? Also, what versions of ubuntu-mono and indicator-keyboard are you running?

Yes, when I open the menu I can see the 'Es' little icon (if I click it the indicator vanishes too).

@attente Oh! Sorry, the problem was caused by the theme I was using. Ambiance and Radiance don't have this problem. I'll mark the bug as invalid, sorry for the confusion :(

Correction, I mean my non-default *icon* theme was causing the problem. ubuntu-mono works perfectly.

@edwinpm5 My apologies, Edwin, I think this isn't a theming issue, but actually an indicator-keyboard bug after all. Thanks for your bug report!

This might be a regression caused by a change to libindicator (from version 12.10.2+14.04.20140218-0ubuntu1 to 12.10.2+14.04.20140304-0ubuntu1).

Same problem for me maybe. I have a Japanese keyboard but installed Trusty in English (my mother tongue). The indicator no longer shows up when I am in English input mode. I can only switch to Japanese input by the shortcut (shift-super-spacebar). When I do the indicator appears but as soon as I switch back to English (same shortcut) the indicator disappears.

Sorry, forgot to add that I am also using a non-default icon theme (Faenza). Wasn't a problem in 13.10.

Looking into it a bit more, it might be a GTK+ bug, but luckily it's easy enough to just fix it in libindicator.

Er, with one small exception. The text entry icon appears, but in its greyed-out form only. I was watching a video review of 14.04 and noticed the icon appears its usual bright white. Small thing, but there it is.

I'm probably crazy, and it's probably supposed to look the way it does, I'll just leave it the way it is. Thanks for your time.

@joecarey, That gray/difficult to read icon is with the non-default icon theme (Numix in my case). I checked and ubuntu-mono doesn't have this problem (both icons use white background). Consider advising the Numix Project about this.
