Bug Description

Binary package hint: flashplugin-nonfree

I have noticed that if I go to Youtube.com and play a flash video there, my ability to do voice recording on certain programs stops.

In Skype - I get a error message that says something like "cannot gain access to recording device"
In AMSN - I get an error message which says something like "Cannot access: /dev/dsp"

But the program "Sound Recorder" will still work perfectly.

For me to fix this problem, i have to logout and log back in, and the problem is solved.

Encountered this problem on Hardy and Intrepid (Alpha 1 & 2)

Computer:
i686
Ubuntu Hardy 8.04
Kernel - 2.6.24-20 Generic

I got exactly the same problem with Ubuntu 8.10. One way to fix it is to switch the whole system to pulseaudio.

The problem is still there in Jaunty.
Is there a way to solve this issue without restarting firefox or skype?
I get the problem both in Gnome and in Kde...
