Your comments are being added; the timeout is occuring reading the page back afterwards. That bug has a large number of comments and often will timeout - we're working on a fix. I'm marking this as a duplicate of the closest bug.

The timeout occurs before I can see a box to enter comments.

Perhaps it would be better not to render all the comments when someone wishes to enter a new one?
