Bug Description
A recent change in DirectBranchCommit made it implicitly require a preferred email address for the committer—or a contact address in the case of a team. If the committer does not have one, an AttributeError results when attempting to commit. This is currently breaking the translations-
The requirement ought to be documented, and either more recognizable exception raised so that calling classes can report the root problem, or a fallback added to cope with the absence of an email address.
