Bug Description
Launchpad is a wonderfully complete system to manage every part of a project. It seems strange to me that there is no way to donate to projects from within LP and even stranger that Karma is given for all kinds of little things but not for donations.
I think that it would be very beneficial for Launchpad to provide this ability as the setup costs for credit cards etc. could essentially be spread between all the projects on the system. I would love to be able to donate US$20 to Ubuntu through LP and get 20 Karma points or something. I would be happy for LP to take a small commission for handling the money and putting it into the individual Paypal accounts etc.

As Stuart pointed out, a logical first step would be to manage funds for the Bounties. I have actually already mentioned this to somebody from the bounty team before; it would make sense for LP to collect funds, ease administration, ensure the money was there for the bounty winner and to earn some interest on them while on trust.
I do think that, once the infrastructure is in place for that, it would be great to extend that to become the functionality to donate directly without Paypal etc. If that could be offered to other projects which register with Launchpad it would be an extra selling point as well.
