Searching launchpad during new Ubuntu bug report always times out

When trying to post an Ubuntu bug at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+filebug/?no-redirect , launchpad tries to search for related bugs but always times out after 10 seconds or so. I haven't seen it actually return anything in months.

Here is the message:
"Searching for your bug in Launchpad took too long. Try reducing the number of words in the summary field and click "Check again" to retry your search. Alternatively, you can enter the details of your bug below."

I've seen this as well. As I understand it there is little we can do immediately because the duplicate matching logic causes very complex queries that are executed poorly by postgresql. We're looking into our overall search needs at the moment, with a goal of refreshing the low level search implementation - and thus fixing the root cause of bugs like this.

However we may be able to tweak this a little in the short term - we'll see what we can do.
