Bug Description

PGP Fingerprint search isn't finding the key. I have verified that my key is in fact on the ubuntu keyserver and has been there for more than the alotted 10 minutes as suggested on the registration page.
Attempting to register the Fingerprint I always get the same error:
Launchpad could not import your OpenPGP key

Page:
https://launchpad.net/~wildintellect/+editpgpkeys
While related to other tickets about registering a pgp key this issue is not the same. As I did get my key to server (despite a bug in seahorse) and I'm not to the email verification step.

I've had this issue as well today. I've confirmed that my key is in the Ubuntu keyserver by searching for myself here: http://keyserver.ubuntu.com:11371/, but Launchpad still gives me the "Launchpad could not import your OpenPGP key" error. I uploaded my key about 10pm last night (now about 8am).

I have exactly the same problem.

My key exists in Ubuntu keyserver: http://keyserver.ubuntu.com:11371/pks/lookup?search=Matthieu+Fertr%C3%A9&fingerprint=on&op=vindex BUT the one interesting me (ED7C F5CA 923A BEEB 8892 6AEE FF0C A732 7A1B 1FC1) is not always visible when I reload this page...

I have tried many times to register from friday morning to now, without any success.

I have attempted this over the last past week, and continue to receive the error message. I have registered my key with keyserver.ubuntu and pgp keyserver to ensure it wasn't an issue with keyserver.ubuntu. It has been 4 days since I have registered with both and verified (listed bellow) that my key was registered.

Result from checking against keyserver.ubuntu:
"gpg --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com -n --recv-keys 250e3a975ca2f41d27c1787a4495657bf2c34a57

gpg: key F2C34A57: "Shawn M. Saling <email address hidden>" not changed
gpg: Total number processed: 1
gpg: unchanged: 1"

Result from checking against pgp keyserver:
"gpg --keyserver ldap://keyserver.pgp.com -n --recv-keys 250e3a975ca2f41d27c1787a4495657bf2c34a57

Also experiencing the same problem:
- Created a key
- Uploaded to keyserver.ubuntu.com
- Verified that the key is on the keyserver
- Waited >24hrs
- Launchpad still says that it is not available

This is because there can be a several hour delay when the keys are synced between servers. I believe this is a dupllicate of several other bugs that are invalid...Launchpad does not control any keyservers.

Brad.

The best we can do is explain to users creating new keys that they may need to wait a day until the key is available to the world,

I disagree, I just tried to do mine again and it still failed. As the original filing was over a week ago and I uploaded my key specifically to the ubuntu keyserver as to avoid syncing issues I find it hard to believe that something is stuck or bugged. Who knows it could just be a hung process somewhere?

@Curtis: It would probably help to tell users creating new keys to wait a day...Should clear up the guys who only wait 10 minutes! But in our case, we have waited several days, so this bug was not a duplicate.

On the upside, I have just now gotten my key to upload correctly to Launchpad, so I'm assuming that whatever the problem was, it is now fixed...Can anyone else confirm?

Alex I just attempted to import *your* pgp key into my profile and it succeeded.

The keyservers in the data center were forced to resynchronize.

Please try again.

It works for me now too. I do not think that 24h wait time is acceptable.

I will make a bold assumption (I am probably wrong):
- the key synchronization code is too slow to handle a peak of new keys
- if a new key is not accepted within 10min the user will resend it, this will increase the number of key synchronization tasks
- key synchronization task pipelines overflow

Izl and others, this particular instance was due to a problem with the key servers. Now that they are synchronizing again you should not see long waits.

I have marked this bug "Invalid" for launchpad-registry because the problem that occurred is not a code problem with Launchpad.
