Having to register a new account is somewhat of a burden to filing a new bug. When a person doesn't have a Launchpad account, we could instead ask them for their email address, let them file the bug report, send them an email to confirm that address, and create the bug once they do confirm their address.
This removes the burden of having to register in LP, doesn't distract the user while they file their bug, and ensures we'll be able to contact that user for further information.
A similar workflow to this is the way one posts classified ads on craigslist.org. |

summary |
Malone should support craigslist-style anonymous bug reporting |
launchpad requires signup before letting users interact (file bugs, comment, etc) |

Symptoms
========
Having to register a new account is somewhat of a burden to filing a new bug / commenting on a bug / answering a question / doing a translation etc.
Possible solutions
==================
When a user isn't logged in we could capture the action and then ask them to login or create an account. If they choose to create an account rather than logging in with an existing, we could stash their action, do the account creation in the SSO, and upon completion of that signup execute the deferred action.
This defers the burden of having to register in LP until after the user has taken a useful / interesting action while still ensuring that the user will be contactable and has passed those spam protection measures that are part of the SSO signup process. |
