Bug Description

Bugs and other objects in launchpad that have a conversation attached to
them operate as a micro-mailing list. You can:
 - subscribe
 - unsubscribe
 - post
 - see the posts

it would make it easier in GUI mail clients to filter them if they
identified themselves as mailing lists.

This is a bit of a 'what if' concept, and I haven't thought it all
through (e.g. should the 'product' be the list, or each bug id).

This is a very interesting idea. There's a superficial one: give the conversation a list-id header which actually wouldn't be difficult to do.

The second, deeper one is more interesting: actually make these conversations a mailing list. We could probably do that once we get Launchpad on Mailman 3, and it might give us some interesting advantages as you've outlined. I will think about this too!

So, I'm going to close this, even though I filed it ;). I think its an interesting idea, but I no longer thing of individual bugs etc as mini-lists; they don't exist to foster discussion, they exist to foster collaboration - a difference that matters when you start to look at precise UI, folk that play niche parts (e.g. validation) etc.

We might do this, but we wouldn't do it for its own sake - e.g. we might do it to let users have an 'unsubscribe' button in their mail client (vs having a link to the subscriptions page where they have to click to unsubscribe). As such, *this* bug describes a solution without a problem.
