Latest download points to first release of linux 2.6.31 series, not the latest one

This is somewhat similar to https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/bugs/419733 but there's something particularly fishy here:

The release file identified as the "latest" download is 2.6.31. We know by looking at https://edge.launchpad.net/linux/+series that the download isn't actually the latest -- there have been a number of 31-based releases. Could it be that the code is getting confused by the fact that the kernel uses a strange numbering scheme, with 3-part (2.6.31.tar.gz) and 4-part (2.6.31.6.tar.gz) numbering?

Curtis, are you sure these two bugs are dupes? I'm asking because it seems like they aren't -- this one would occur even if there was just a single series on a product, I bet.

Yes this is a dup because er are unable to identify what what we mean by current. This has something to do with the series. Your proposal to not allow obsolete series is sound, but in the case you cite, most the of the series are active. It is not clear if latest release is development or stable, or, which is why I am not working on the main bug.

The answer may relate to our understanding of the users who download. I believe most users get their code from a distro. A hacker is using the source. I suppose the user who wants a specific release is an admin who need to manage a non-standard set to tools to manage a system.
