Unable to translate a string by a space

In Evolution (French), the "by" string is translated by a space (" ").

It is translated upstream and the import seems to ignore the space. Moreover, when I want to translate it by a space in Launchpad, it does not accept the translation, showing the string still untranslated.

The page David provided doesn't show the same string anymore, or I am failing to understand the bug. However, it might be the old bug 30358 that's causing problems.

A translator has overriden the upstream translation with another translation, probably because of this bug.

A better workaround is probably to use [nbsp] instead (non-breaking space). However, that doesn't seem to work either because we are using .strip() in potmsgset POTMsgSet.normalizeWhitespace() which also strips \xa0. So, this is indeed a duplicate of #30358.
