Launchpad discards comments when showing a +editstatus form error

Bug Description

When using the expanded area to change status/assignee/etc... and add a comment at the same time, LP will discard the comment if the new assignee is not a valid user.

This is happening on the +editstatus page. Then the user is shown the error, all the fields are preserved except the comment.

The +editstatus form is essentially deprecated. We'd love a patch to fix this issue but its not in our roadmap to do it outselves. We can offer mentoring though!
