ajax edit in place of bug product hangs

To reproduce:

Go to a bug.
Click the edit pencil next to the product in the bug task. A vocabulary popup comes up.
Choose a new product in the popup.

Observe: a spinner appears and stays, and the product name does not change.
What should happen: the spinner should appear only for a short while and then the product name should change.

This has happened 3/3 times this morning.

Forcing a reload of the page shows the rename has taken effect.

Just a guess here: this is connected to the name of the bug object changing, therefore the api call fails?

I saw this happen a lot the day I was retargeting a group of bugs for a project. It seem to be failing to find the node to update in the UI, if I glanced at firebug correctly and memories hold from that day.

I took a closer look at Firebug when this happened today. There is no xhtml response returned from the server. The POST request to update the product works fine, but then the GET doesn't actually have any xhtml.
