Bug Description

It seems that YUI can't find nodes whose ID contain a '.', making it hard to deal with Zope form elements.

This is a bug in formlib, not YUI. http://pypi.python.org/pypi/z3c.form indicates the bug was fixed in z3c.form 2.2.0. The fix will require both an update of the Lp's libraries and updates to the hand-crafted forms.
