"invalid value" error when selecting a person

Bug Description
This seems to happen in many contexts, but the most recent example was when I tried to use:
https:/
to add 'cjwatson' to the team (which unambiguously matches one Launchpad user). I get an "invalid value" error with a drop-down containing only one entry (the matching user).
