Bug Description

I will provide a specific bug here so please don't mark this as invalid.
The launchpad search does not provide natural and useful results in all cases. For example if i want to report or view bugs in ebox. I will search for ebox. ---> https://edge.launchpad.net/+search?field.text=ebox

The first result is for

    * eBox platform (Unspecified)

The link i actually want would contain information that would be useful to me as a user. This page https://edge.launchpad.net/ebox contains no links to the ubuntu package. I cannot see bugs filed in ebox on other platforms / areas as they are not aggregated(this could be another bug).

So to fix this i suggest that-> the interface show on a results for a search important information for users. So if extra information was added to the ebox search results / the first page the user will see that says "ebox" but then will show links to other areas on the site where ebox is important within a context (it is a package in ubuntu for example) .. this would be a fix. (for this specific search result).

Essentially the search results should provide a result that aggregates USEFUL hits. Launchpad should also aggregate bug information or provide links to where bugs *are* reported elsewhere on the site.

Moving this bug report to the Launchpad Registry project (though it might straddle both that and Launchpad Foundations) since the main search isn't part of the bug tracker project.

There may not be enough information to match the source package, which is why the Google page matches are ften more relevant. Still, matching source packages would help some users.

Changed in launchpad-registry:
importance: Undecided → Low
status: New → Triaged

No. Launchpad is not ubuntu.org or any other site with ubuntu in it. The sixth link in your query was to the ebox source package page in Ubuntu:

     https://edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ebox

It is possible to get an exact match to that page.

Hi guys,

Recently, during the Soyuz UI sprint, we have worked on a redesign of https://launchpad.net/ubuntu search UI (+search) that will highlight exact matches on source and binary packages.

Results in that search will be as useful as the ones in http://package.ubuntu.com and will additionally contain links to the corresponding projects and shortcuts for filing bugs, translating and asking questions within launchpad.

I believe this will be a better and more direct mechanism for searching packages than the global launchpad search page. We will publish a prototype very soon. Stay tunned.

In search looking for Arora
first entry is https://bugs.launchpad.net/arora
none of them is link to ubuntu package arora

since many projects dont use LP as bug report esyer for me is just report bug to ubuntu same name package

i would like if search results order could be redesigned taking this importance in mind. well at least hoping it will be taken
This is what should be showed in search results
1.) Exact name projects
2.) Users
3.) Ubuntu packages (or maybe correct would be if i say project under-package)
4.) All other etc.. whats been showing up like now

It would be cool if this would be showing up in launchpad main search results
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+search?text=arora

Solution would be like searches show on top ubuntu packages also.
So search must be made "ubuntable" couse most of LP users are ubuntu users and search and report about ubuntu bugs
