Email address visible despite privacy settings

When I registered for launchpad, it gave me a name (ie, http://launchpad.net/~name) that can be trivially transformed to my email address, despite the fact I elected to keep it private. The good news is that I can change it now that I noticed it. I notice that the username part of my email address is already taken on launchpad, so perhaps the default behavior on collision is to append the domain?
