Bug Description

Team: https://launchpad.net/~64-bit
Mailing List: <email address hidden>

As the owner of the 64-bit team, it seems i'm unable to send out any e-mails to the mailing list from any of my accounts, even attempted from an e-mail account not associated with Launchpad which failed. Once the message has been sent I receive no bounce message or error of any kind, its like the message has been sent successfully however it never shows up in the logs and also my team does not receive it.

All team members can e-mail the list fine, the problem seems to be with the me the owner.

Contacted Richen on IRC and he verified I have the proper setup on Launchpad, he also confirmed the mailing list works for him with a test post, as can be seen in the logs

https://lists.launchpad.net/64-bit/

Richen seemed to think maybe the messages are being held for moderation but are never getting past this stage

The mailing list was activated once bug 237210 had been fixed, im not sure if these are linked.

Hi Aidan,

I tested a similar scenario with the ~haibunku team mailing list. I tried to email it both as a subscribed member, and as an unsubscribed team owner. Both tests worked fine. So I'm uncertain what the issue here is, but let's try to figure it out.

First, you will definitely not be allowed to post to an LP mailing list from an address not registered and validated with LP. This is to reduce spam, and to further reduce blow back spam, you will not get a notification of this rejection.

Now, let's say you are posting with an address that is definitely registered and validated on LP, and is associated with your userid. If you are a member of the team (and this includes the team owner), then your post should definitely go through, however you must be explicitly subscribed -- even as the team owner -- to receive a copy of the message in your inbox. The fact that your post did not make it to the archive suggests that it is either being modified, or did not get to the Mailman server.

Some things to try:

- Make sure that the From field contains an email address associated with your userid, and that is registered and validated with LP.

- Try to explicitly subscribe to the ~64-bit mailing list. Go to https://launchpad.net/people/+me/+editemails and find the 64-bit team in the list of teams at the bottom of the page. Set the value to 'preferred email' and click Subscribe. Wait a few minutes for the membership data to sync up and then post to the mailing list with your preferred address.

If that works, try unsubscribing from the mailing list by going to https://launchpad.net/~64-bit and clicking on the Unsubscribe button. Wait a few minutes for the membership data to sync up and then post from your preferred address. This should go to the list, but you'll have to check the archive because you won't get a copy.

If none of that works, we are going to have to inspect the MTA logs for more details. Please let us know exactly what email address you're posting from, and if you have any Message-ID headers for your posts that didn't go through, that would greatly help to.

Barry,

thanks for the help it seems to have fixed the issue, I cant say for sure what was causing it but once I had loaded the page https://launchpad.net/people/+me/+editemails, it seemed everything was set as you suggested already.

However I decided to add another e-mail address to my account, it is the same e-mail account as before however I used a different domain name for this one, then I removed the orginal faulty one and set the new one as my preffered address.

Sent a test message and it worked fine, well it has been displayed in the logs which is a first so im sure it worked .

Again thanks for the help, finally I can send out a message now
