2011-05-26 20:41:11 Robert Collins description Actual behaviour: 1. I want to report a bug against Launchpad itself 2. I go to https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/bugs/+filebug (I'm a beta tester) 3. I select the "Project" radio button 4. I press "Choose" 5. I enter "launchpad" into the "Select a project" text area 6. I press "Search" 7. I press "[4]" to go to the page where the projects begin with an 'l' 8. I find "lptest", "launchpad-answers", "launchpad-buildd", "launchpad-bazaar", "launchpad-report-tool" etc etc 9. It turns out the strings are not in alphabetical order, they're just in something that looks at first glance like alphabetical order, and the project "launchpad" is on page 5, just after "rosetta" and "lp-translations-tools" Expected behaviour: Well, ideally when I search for the exact matching string "launchpad" I'd like it to be the very first result, not on either page 4 or 5. (There is probably a separate bug report about this.) But at the very least I'd like to be able to find it by a manual binary search for the letter "l", and not find it coming just after "rosetta". Symptoms ======== In popup searches that require selecting a project/product/distribution - such as the bug target picker on https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/+filebug - an exact string like 'launchpad' will return 'Too many results' and show no options at all. Sometimes it will show 10 or so pages of results with the exact match hidden deep in the results. Most of the results seem to have nothing in common with the search string (particularly for searches for 'launchpad'). If too many hits are found 'undefined' is shown and nothing can be used. This is particularly annoying when an exact match exists. Workarounds =========== In the case of reassigning a bug, you can click the drop-down marker on the far left side of the bug task row and type in the target you want to change to.
