New message styling obscures useful content

As well as looking generally odd, the new message class styles obscure page content in multiple locations. See the attached screenshot.

I can see the problem in the first screenshot: the icon overlay the text above it. I'm not sure I understand the issue in the second, is it that there are two dialogs or that the icon of the second touches the first one (it doesn't hide anything useful really there.)

    margin: 1em auto 1em auto;
