deleting a team via a merge is blocked by declined mailing list

Unfortunately, the merge failed with an error:

traduttori.italiani is associated with a Launchpad mailing list; we can't merge it.

The mailling last for said team has been declined.
Expected behaviour? That declined lists - and hence non existent(?) lists aren't blocking team merging to effect deletion.
Thoughts?
