Emails about merge requests are being sent with delays

Bug Description
I observed yesterday and today that emails are being sent with significant delays, but only about merge requests, not build failures.
Today I got one with about 3 h delay.

Can confirm that that seems to be the case.
It seems as though the emails are created at a given time, there seems to be an unusually large delay until the smtp-relay-services receives them.
