Wishlist: Bug Conversations should be threaded with reply

Bug Description

I've read some of the other bugs, but I think this is different.

I would really like it if in conversations on bugs one could reply to a specific comment, and that thread could be handled and displayed somehow. For me, this occurs most when I reply to a bug with "hey I think this fixes it" and then get a bunch of replies that are yes and a couple no's. I would like to be able to reply to the no's and have a conversation there instead of tacking it on at the end where it's difficult to see where I'm replying.

I would like this threading to appear on the website, but also be in the e-mail headers so that my mail client can pick up on it as well.

In my experience, supporting threading encourages bug discussions to go off-topic more than it helps bugs get fixed.

If we supported this in the Web interface, perhaps we'd need a toggle to switch between chronological and threaded order. In some Web forums I've noticed people "reply" to the first comment solely so that their comment will appear early in the page.

I think that the conversations go off topic irregardless, but at least
this way you can just fold up those threads and ignore them :)

I'm not sure if that is their goal, or the fact that they don't
understand the interface and so they want to reply and click on the
first reply button they see.

Perhaps an interface where the addition of a comment is at the bottom
with a "Reply To:" box where you can select the post. It would be as
efficient, but would give the perception your comment is going at the
end and make it so that most people would have to read through a
significant number of comments before replying.

This also came up in the UDS-L user interviews.

Would it be at least possible for people that receive several mails for a bug or answer that they would have a In-Reply-To header referencing the first mail they received about this bug ? So that thunderbird would make it a collapsable thread and let it easier to see what the bug/answer state is.

It's not really feasible to record that. But it also shouldn't be
necessary; MUAs can and should thread messages with a common parent even
if they don't have the parent message itself.
