Notify user when replying to his code comments

In a merge request, user U writes review comments in the diff.

If one clicks "reply" under user's U comment and submits a comment there, the latter is not notified by mail — at least not if he is not a reviewer.

I'd expect a reply to trigger a notification to the user being replied to.

Thanks for reporting. I was able to reproduce this, and indeed I would expect to get notified when I am involved in a MP discussion.

We have discussed this quickly in the team, and we do see two ways forward.

Either automatically subscribe any commenter to a MP, or add a (pre-selected) checkbox to subscribe to the MP just above the "Post comment" button.

In any case we would need to make sure to enable easy unsubscribing.

Thanks for considering this.

I think subscribing would be a good default, otherwise the replier can
never really know whether the reviewer (who might have overlooked the
check box) was notified, creating the need for spontaneous notification
"just in case".
