Bug Description

Trying to change the repository owner of charm-cloudstats on this page https://code.launchpad.net/~canonical-bootstack-cre/charm-cloudstats/+git/charm-cloudstats to bootstack-charmers results in the "Oops!" error.

I tried a few times but it always crashes. I captured these error IDs:

Error ID: OOPS-b4cdf645e830458109eb5dd5a925fd47
Error ID: OOPS-ee9bae146654f1f4f14a52176c083659

The target account, ~bootstrack-charmers, has a repository with the "owner default" and there can only be one of those per owner/target. You can go to https://code.launchpad.net/~bootstack-charmers/charm-cloudstats/+git/aluria-charm-cloudstats/+edit and uncheck "Owner default", and then the move should work.

May I know why the statu is "Incomplete"? I think the description is clear. We would like to change the repository owner but it would crash. Could launchpad team or IS help us to solve the issue and change the owner? Thanks!

Thanks, it looks like that was it, although the correct URL was https://code.launchpad.net/~bootstack-charmers/charm-cloudstats/+git/charm-cloudstats/+edit

On the one that you pasted, I kept getting "This repository does not contain a reference named 'refs/heads/master'."

I think it would make sense to provide a proper error message for the users instead of just showing an oops, especially as the users can solve this issue themselves.

This is another OOPS ID (OOPS-b0233ea2e6f14d4e83a725eb4ac03d1d) we get
https://oops.canonical.com/?oopsid=OOPS-b0233ea2e6f14d4e83a725eb4ac03d1d

After getting support from launchpad team (Colin Watson)
We find this proprietary repository had been archived and caused the conflict with the cloudstats project.
"~bootstack-charmers/charm-cloudstats/+git/aluria-charm-cloudstats"

This proprietary repository is no use and could be removed.

Thanks!

So, to resolve this bug, we probably need to change `_BaseGitNamespace.validateDefaultFlags` to cope with the fact that the existing default might not be readable by the acting user, in addition to rendering `GitDefaultConflict` errors in a better way in the UI.
