Bug Description

hi!

Regards: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu #Announcements -> http://feeds.launchpad.net/ubuntu/announcements.atom
========
Attachment: screencopy-cutout, for visual impression.

What is exspected there?
========================

To find the links to the most recent releases of Ubuntu
– 14.04LTS, 12.04 LTS, 15.10 –
In order to find easy access to their relevant Release-Notes.

What is current situtation?
===========================

The currently displayed version are all EOL
(with j-u-s-t one exeption = 12.04 LTS)

see also [https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases]

The worst is, that 14.04/16.04 LTS is missing!
This really puts a bad image on Ubuntu's entrance-door in LP.

What to do resolve the matter?
==============================

Don't know really how (shrugg)

 - write a bug-report (DONE)
 - check if it's an automated service like a RSS-bot (obviously not so, thanks for info Colin Watson, comment'9 here)
 - unique chance to check if the changed release cycle (9 month vs. 5 years of support) should be taken in account to place LTS in the top rows OR emphasize LTS

Timeline for fix
================

Would be nice to have this fixed until the RC of 16.04 LTS. The earlier, the better.

Oops, I tried to make a change before I noticed William had already moved it from launchpad.

All of it seems to be coming from Launchpad pages though? Is the announcements feed generated from some external atom feed from the Ubuntu website?

Content on Launchpad pages isn't the responsibility of the Launchpad team. The project's maintainers control the project's content.

This is not a Launchpad bug. The maintainers of the Ubuntu project in Launchpad need to update the announcements; Launchpad staff cannot.

Why in f***ing hell cant these two project-leads put their heads together and resolve this most unpleaseant matter?

The source for the input to the feedreader has to come from somewhere. So maybe there was a change right after 14.10 was published, may there was a change/push in people within the website-content-team and no documentation for this @all.

I cannot trigger the secret behind the coding to fill the atom-feed from just looking at the html-source-code of page in question, I just realized since a while it's stuck and not presenting at it's best.

I personally like sending "people" to the ubuntu-slot, to allow them to discover the wealth of open source. Launchpad in itself is so strong, that it's hard to accept failure on such an item.

I do not want to bore you, but the french have have a saying: "The entrance hall is the carte de visite"

Dont get wrong I am a person with a peaceful mind, but may probably retire from bug-triage once I reach the 60th cycle of life-time. This is not so fa away. ;-)

Assigned this A-hundred-papercuts, gracefully!

Please don't swear at us, regardless of whether you put asterisks in there.

The announcement feed in question is entirely manually maintained. In order for anything to end up there, the Ubuntu release team has to put it there. An instruction to do this is in the Ubuntu release process (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReleaseProcess) and has not been followed.

I am reassigning this to Ubuntu and subscribing the ubuntu-release team, whose responsibility it is to do this. Please do not reassign it back to Launchpad or create new bug tasks on Launchpad for this; this is not a bug that requires fixing in Launchpad itself.

hi! Mark,

put you on the list of subscribers, as I'm not at all satisfied reading the own statement of the technical group on LP (something like: "sorting out editing rights on LP"). Even though I'm neither using Ubuntu nor Launchpad any longer [1] I'm still interested this should change.

Maybe you have an idea? If you don't feel like the right person, just unsubscribe.

Thanks & regards.

[1] Went off to using a rolling-release based on Debian.
