to me the only way to figure out whether I'm allowed or not to enabled a particular architecture in my PPAs is to try clicking on the check boxes.
It would be handy if there was also a clear visual hint about this, dunno... something like a tiny prohibition sign or something... or maybe crossing the unavailable archs or paint them gray..

The visual hint on which architectures can be enabled is too subtle, as the only difference is the check box being grayed out, and the check box being tiny and the difference hard to notice when all available architectures are enabled.
