Bug Description

Sometime in the last two or three days, Launchpad has stopped displaying properly in Opera 9.20.

The left-hand menu is floating right, over the first part of the main body of text.

This is a new behaviour - LP has previously always worked just fine in all versions of Opera. I updated to Opera 9.20 several weeks ago, and as recently as two or three days ago, everything was fine.

Screenshot will be attached.

I confirm that this behaviour started in the last day or so, as shown in the Reporter's screenshot attachment. It is the same if the user is logged in or not.
It is evident in Opera 9.20 in Dapper and Windows XP.
This bug renders Launchpad almost unusable in Opera 9.20.

I can also comfirm this, it happens to the Actions navigation menu of all pages just like the Reporter's screenshot attachment.

This is not a bug in our CSS, nor is it a bug in Opera. It is because unlike Opera 9.0, Opera 9.2 supports exactly the same set of CSS selectors that I was using to target IE7 and work around a CSS bug in that browser. I'm sorry about this, I didn't know that Opera would change their CSS selector support in a point-release.

Curious -- when I go to http://rafael.adm.br/css_browser_selector/ in Opera 9.2, it identifies the browser as Opera, not as IE7.

Even if it is due to a change in Opera's behaviour, it's a bug in your code.

Nicholas, despite its name, <http://rafael.adm.br/css_browser_selector/> uses JavaScript, not CSS, to detect Opera. It's not relevant to this bug.

Anyway, I've fixed this bug in r4205. I've also requested that the fix be applied to launchpad.net ASAP, since Launchpad is rather unusable in Opera otherwise.

There are also some problems in IE 6 (I use IE since I can't use Opera). When a page is loaded it's correctly displayed, but as soon as I hover my cursor over the sidebar everthing but the "your location" bar jumps about 10 pixels up.

Also the scrollbar in this text area is sliced in half vertically.

I'm investigating why this fix hasn't been applied to launchpad.net yet. In the meantime, you can use Opera with <https://edge.launchpad.net/>, which has been updated. You'll need to add "edge." at the start of the addresses you receive in bug notifications and so on. Sorry for the inconvenience.

The fix should be applied to launchpad.net on Thursday 17th UTC. Sorry again for the delay.
