Cannot join open team if there's an existing membership pending approval

Bug Description
Stuck in Launchpad limbo
I had applied to a team (Ubuntu English (Canada) Translation Team [https:/
I had still not been approved when the team became an "Open Team"
The problem is that upon trying to join the newly open team I receive the message "Your membership is awaiting approval from one of this team's administrators."
Since I was unable to make contact with the team owner/admin I am basically stuck in limbo.
