'sudo dpkg --configure -a' E: _cache->open() failed,please report

i tried to install wine on linux mint 12 lisa and got the following report 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' i tried running this in terminal and got E:_cache->open()failed, please report i am fairly new to linux and cannot figure out how to correct this problem. can you help? <email address hidden>

Can you attach the full transcript of the error?

The “E: _cache->open()” message is not from dpkg. So this bug needs to be
reassigned somewhere else. APT has errors starting with "E:" but since you
invoked dpkg directly it seems weird to see an APT error message. But
maybe some postinst script uses APT indirectly... but in order to know we
need a copy of what you had on your terminal.
