Tasks in some multi-task bugs now immutable

Bug Description

I just attempted to reject the Ubuntu kexi task of bug #61850. Upon doing so, I was told that this bug had already been reported in koffice. Heading over to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kexi/+bug/61850/+editstatus and attempting to make a change shows the package being changed to koffice when you attempt to save the changes. This is (as you might imagine) more than a little irritating, as that task is now immutable.

I'm sorry for not being able to give any more details, but I can't do more testing on other bugs with multiple tasks because staging is currently not available.

After blanking the package field, Hobbsee was able to reject it. It seems that two Ubuntu package tasks can't happily coexist in peace and harmony on one bug, which seems to defeat the purpose of Launchpad somewhat.

Can you describe the state of the bug before you made these changes? What tasks existed, and what changes were you trying to make?

There were tasks on the kexi and koffice packages in Ubuntu. I attempted to change the status originally, though the importance did the same thing.

Attempting to set the Ubuntu task of that bug to a package shows the problem.

Um, it seems to work if I assign it to a package that isn't kexi.

Okay. So the problem appears to be that the "kexi" binary package in the latest Ubuntu release is built from the "koffice" binary package (even though it was built from its own source package in dapper).

When you ask to create a kexi task, Launchpad tries to create a "koffice (Ubuntu)" task due to how the current kexi binary package is built. This then fails because there is already a "koffice (Ubuntu)" task.

So the bug is that you can't easily file a task against a source package from an old Ubuntu release (e.g. from Dapper LTS) if a binary package of the same name is in a later release but builds from some other source package.

Ahh, I hadn't considered that. I really would have thought that it wouldn't try to change it if the task already existed.
