Bug Description
Here is an example:
In the case of wine:
wine.org tracks particular games and user submitted (often less than well written) patches. If I subscribe to the PPA and try to apply particular diffs to PPA deb-src, I often get chunk fails. If I get a chunk-fail I am forced to parse the PPA C/C++ source and the diff chunk.
If there were a method to annotate that a particular diff/patch was addressed already (or partially applied), I think it might help community contributed diffs if an official maintainer rewrote part of a patch and submitted it for upstream adoption.
It may just be me being lazy, but I think it would apply to a lot of packages. It could also simplify crowd-sourced partial diff chunk rewrites or at least cleaning up diffs for re-submission to, in this case, wine.org. This way submitted patches would not conflict and require complicated merges.
