Bug Description

hi!

splitted this task away from bug 1532157 (status:fixed) into this one,
since it's easier to follow-up on both sides this way.

Subject: Kubuntu Release Notes 15.10 [1]
 -- Section: _Known Problems_

needs this line:

Problems in the installer, graphics and kernel are listed on the common _release notes_. (combine link [3] or [4])

This one-liner was taken from RN Kubuntu 14.04 LTS [2] and adoptet for Wily to ease the work.

==================================================

As the underlying system is not impeccable it is welcome to have Kubuntu users informed e.g. to switch in case of AMD-closed-source-Drivers (fglrx) to open-source driver _before_ the Upgrade – otherwise they run into a black-screen. Ubuntu RN say this is "warmly recommended", instead of mention an empty, black screen.

Even though this bug got fixed just recently, it's not fair on Kubuntu-users to hide away this important piece of information - and not to make it easy accessible.

We actually will be needing this then ongoing with 16.04 Alpha2 -> final

Also now it might be helpful for upgraders from Vivid 15.04

Thanks for helping to get Kubuntu better every day

best regards

Confirmed by myself since I know I can trust my eyes.

Looking at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

and knowing that Vivid Vervet reaches EOL later this month, I'd like to know if there is some progress on this, as it was overseen in Oct.2015, obviously.

Remembering that it was possible to use the backports-ppa to update to a more recent version of KDE5. my memory doesn't rewind that much, knowing if this would introduce some breaks/failures - it might need an extra note?

Not all Ubuntu bugs affect Kubuntu. We have to investigate what Ubuntu bugs affect Kubuntu as well. The fglrx fail might not affect plasma, so there is no point in misleading the users.

Have you tested and can confirm that those issues also affect Kubuntu?

@ Ovidu-Florin,

a little while ago there was also a user asking for help on askubuntu:

https://askubuntu.com/questions/699970/kubuntu-wont-boot-after-installing-fglrx-updates/700138#700138

His matter was settled. If you are interested you may well look at it.

Trying to give U a simple reply on this – since it's possible to co-install kubuntu-desktop within an base-installation of any other official *buntu-flavour all of these could affect Kubuntu.

This looks strange to me:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WilyUpgrades/Kubuntu#Run_Muon_Update_Manager_Again

3rd picture suggests to look at: http:www.ubuntu.com/Desktop/features

This has certainly no relation to Kubuntu at all.

Wiki-Page is set to "immutable" - so community can't do nothing, but ask in the friendliest way to have this adjusted. ;-)

There should be a Kubuntu-policy in place¹ for this, just simply because it's not a matter of website-administration but of Release-management.

Ever since I am using Kubuntu the Ubuntu-RN were mentioned.

>OT>I do not blame Jon for leaving this out then, since I know that the overal situation then was taking away lots of energy <OT<

I've looked in the recent release announcements (from the past), and I didn't find any that mentions the Ubuntu Release Notes. This needs to be discussed with the release team.

In both of these documents are links to the offical Ubuntu-Release-Notes.

Either you have not found them yet or not been looking correctly.

Fixed in https://kubuntu.org/news/kubuntu-15-10/ . The previous LTS post is pretty old, and the next LTS is to be released on a few weeks, so I dont' consider it to be relevant anymore.

Thanks!

This may be in question also for the upcoming Xenial-Beta2 then ... as Softpedia just reported on Mar.10. 2016 [1]

We do also have early opportunity to peek in a draft of the Ubuntu-RN for Xenial [2]
