Bug Description

I am on AMD64, running Kubuntu 11.10 with

Linux deneb 3.0.0-13-generic #22-Ubuntu SMP Wed Nov 2 13:27:26 UTC 2011 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

As this bug is hard to track I will wait for advice which information is required upon I start digging deeper what information is required.

I have configured powermanagement to suspend desktop effects on power detach event. This works. If I re-attach the power cord, desktop effects are _sometimes_ not restored, nor is the backlight brought back to full power.

This is totally inconsistent - I couldn't identify a pattern. Manually enabling desktop effects or changing backlight intensity works.

Should probably add that I have a NVidia Card and using the propriatery drivers installed by the Additional Drives helper program.

Ha! I finally found the pattern by incident. After I use a program which does some DRI rendering (like the Dragon Video player), the power management fails to activate profiles. The attach or detach event is noticed though, as indicated in the task bar.

Thank you for taking your time to file this bug and helping to make Kubuntu better. Does this still happen? And if yes, which KDE version are you running? Thanks.

No, it's still not working,

Linux deneb 3.0.0-16-generic #29-Ubuntu SMP Tue Feb 14 12:48:51 UTC 2012 x86_64,
KDE 4.7.4
NVidia driver 280.13

however the pattern is easily reproducable: After playing a video with Dragon Player, the laptop still receives power events (the plasma taskbar is showing notifications), and switches power profile, but display dim or brighten events are not handled. Manually adjsuting brightness works.
