Bug Description

Hi there

for some reason, after about 15min my external screen goes black despite Dragon Player running a movie. My power settings are to performance when ac adaptor is un/plugged and no screen energy savings are set.

Also my screensaver settings say to kick in after 45min.

I also notice that the harddrive of my notebook gets powered down after a certain time. Power Settings seems to have no effect at all.... no matter how I change them the system will behave equally.

Not sure of this works for everyone, but I managed to stop all these things from happening and get the screensaver working in Kubuntu 11.10 opening Home/.kde/share/config/kscreensaverrc
In this small file you should find
[ScreenSaver]
PlasamEnabled=False
Saver=<Your Chsoen Screensaver>
Timeout=60 - this is in seconds, I've got mine at 60 for 1 minute for testing.

Just change the line that reads PlasmaEnables=False to PlasmaEnabled=True
(The capitalization is important) save the file and all should be well.

Addendum to the above posting. To change the Power management settings, you have to login to System Settings as root:
<ALT+F2> kdesudo systemsettings
go to Startup and Shutdown --> Service Manager. Check that the Power Management option in the Startup Services pane ( bottom half of the screen) is running. If it isn't highlight it and click the button "Start" int he bottom right corner.
Go to Power Management, --> Power Profiles. Make sure "Dim Display" and "Screen Energy Saving" are checked. Set the times for each int he text boxes; making sure that the Dim Display timing is less than the Screen Energy saving time. eg: Dim Display set for 10 minutes; Screen Energy saving set for 11 minutes (for example).
Click Apply and exit the SystemSettings box. Do not switch off the Power management module that you switched on earlier.
All should be well. Should being the operative word here! :D
