Bug Description
I have installed the 64-bit version of Kubuntu 12.04. I prefer to use aptitude and I have seen that there may be some issues with it regarding 32-bit apps on the 64-bit OS. I have installed acroread which apparently only comes in the 32-bit version. But this is just background.
This afternoon I installed kalarm by running 'apt-get install kalarm', and there were a lot of dependencies which surprised me.
Later when I tried to lock my screen, it did nothing. Then when I opened system settings, the options were completely different from what I had after the initial installation. In particular, I now do not have the option to manage the Display.
I have unistalled systemsettings and reinstalled it, but the 'new' options are still there. There was also a newer version of system settings which I tried, but again no help.
I have attached dpkg.log starting when Kubuntu was originally installed.
Since I could not lock my screen, I logged out, and when I tried to log back in, kdm could not connect to dbus. I tried to deinstall all of the 32-bit packages from a console, but this did not correct the problem. Then I tried to reinstall Kubuntu and kdm would not even start. Since I am using this machine at work, I have had to install a different distro and won't be able to provide any more information.
