I forgot version info - sorry

KiCad 2011-05-25 stable from Ubunto repo running on Ubuntu 11.10 in an Oracle VirtualBox VM.

WORKS with KiCad 20090216 from Ubuntu repo on Ubuntu 10.04 also in an Oracle VirtualBox VM.

Suggestion: try the latest version from Adam Wolf's PPA.

Let us know if the problem is still in that version.

Dick - thanks so much for the fast response!!

Unfortunately yes, the bug still exists with the "latest" from Adam's PPA which is dated 2011-Nov-30. Interestingly, I get the popup which I can acknowledge, then I can still alter the 3D view slightly, get another popup, ack that and repeat as needed. The image DOES redraw correctly. It does not "crash" but there's clearly an enumeration (which is what the 1280 means) that's not properly handled in the code. It seems to make the move then generate the popup, meaning it's possibly AFTER the screen draw.

I have run kicad from the terminal to look for error messages but none come to the console, only the popup.

On the lighter side, for all the time I've been using kicad, this was the first time I really could have leveraged the 3D view! I have some less experienced students who would benefit from that visual. Luckily I have the older rev as my near term workaround.

Thanks to all - this is a great tool!!!

I have the same bug currently. I'm running KiCad in Virtualbox on a Debian x32 machine, build 2013-12-12 BZR 4550 - I have 3D acceleration enabled in the virtualbox preferences.

same here, using 4022 (almost a year old, apparently still latest version according to http://iut-tice.ujf-grenoble.fr/cao/ ).
if 3D acceleration is turned off in virtualbox, there is no error but it runs slow. with 3D acceleration, openGL messages are flooding the screen with every attempt to zoom or change view.
