There are no one who cares to add this feature. You can try to add it. But it will need you to determine why it does not work and then propose what needs to be changed to make it work.

Well, I suppose there are a lot of wishlist features that no one cares to implement (at the moment).
Does it mean all of them will be marked "won't fix" ? ;)

No, not nessesarely. This is just a feature that I suspect that no one of the active developers care much about for quite a while. Feel free to become that developer that cares.

Thanks for clarification, Nick.
I'm not a software developer myself but I'll try to interest other people that are.

I have packaged KiCad 4 in PortableApps.com format. Please have a look at this

You can download it here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/kicad4-portable/

With v5 KiCad is easy to make portable, see https://forum.kicad.info/t/portable-kicad-nightly-build-in-windows/11473. The problem with configuration directory has been fixed with KICAD_CONFIG_HOME variable. KiCad itself doesn't leave any traces in the registry AFAIK.

BTW, the sf.net project mentioned above violates the GPL licence. There's no KiCad source code available there, at least I can't find it.
