Bug Description

When I open the schematic editor and move the mouse on the screen, the "+" cursor never gets cleared as the mouse moves. Therefore, my mouse leaves a trail of "+" signs all over the screen, making the application unusable. Clicking on some of the icons or buttons outside the canvas area immediately, and temporarily, repaints the pane and clears the "+" signs.

Application: kicad
Version: 4.0.7+dfsg1-1ubuntu2 release build
wxWidgets: Version 3.0.4 (debug,wchar_t,compiler with C++ ABI 1011,GCC 7.3.0,wx containers,compatible with 2.8)
Platform: Linux 4.15.0-55-generic x86_64, 64 bit, Little endian, wxGTK
Boost version: 1.65.1
Curl version: libcurl/7.58.0 OpenSSL/1.1.1 zlib/1.2.11 libidn2/2.0.4 libpsl/0.19.1 (+libidn2/2.0.4) nghttp2/1.30.0 librtmp/2.3
         USE_WX_GRAPHICS_CONTEXT=OFF
         USE_WX_OVERLAY=OFF
         KICAD_SCRIPTING=ON
         KICAD_SCRIPTING_MODULES=ON
         KICAD_SCRIPTING_WXPYTHON=ON
         USE_FP_LIB_TABLE=HARD_CODED_ON
         BUILD_GITHUB_PLUGIN=ON

I am not attaching a sample file because I am facing this problem with each and every project. I create a new project, go into the schematic editor, and the "+" trail starts.

You are running KiCad 4.0.7, the current version is 5.1. Please upgrade to the latest version and see if the problem persists.

Unfortunately, I was using the version of KiCAD offered by the Ubuntu
repository. I have stepped outside the "official" stream of packages with
other packages and have faced problems. However, I guess you guys are the
KiCAD maintainers -- this is no longer your scope, but that of the Ubuntu
maintainers.

Will try to move my KiCAD up to your latest stable release.

I have purged the old KiCAD which was part of the official Ubuntu distro, added the PPA for KiCAD 5.1 and installed the latest release. The bug has disappeared. Thanks for the help. Please can you close this ticket?

I have put it to invalid, that is essentially closed since it works after you upgraded.

This duplicate identification is probably correct, however the problem I
faced was with the schematic editor. I guess the same code was there in
both.
