Eeschema crashing extraordinarily frequently

Recently, eeschema has been spontaneously crashing very frequently. Yesterday it crashed for me perhaps two dozen times. I've not reported it because I couldn't reproduce it. However, I found a reproducible case this morning, using the current nightly.

What you see in the linked video (https://drive.google.com/open?id=15YeV1E9CO4MgU8pfzFPE8cPrTKNE06Ce) is me beginning a net-highlight operation, then deciding instead to do a place-component operation. (Notice that even though I click the place-component button, eeschema still remains in net-highlight mode.) I then click the net-highlight button again, but eeschema (and kicad as well) crash. This seems to happen almost every time I try that particular combination of operations, but there are other combinations (which I can't presently identify) that have the same effect.

The video is of the top-level sheet, module.sch. It may or may not be relevant that this schematic has a bitmap image in the background template, which I'm using to position objects during placement. Another perhaps-novel feature is that the sheet itself also has a small bitmap image (a logo) that's not visible in the video.
