Alignment/distribution silently does nothing

On a nightly ha few weeks back I had issues with alignment going the wrong direction that I asked about on the forum:

With the latest nightlies however, the alignment AND distribution actions have stopped working altogether. The mouse pointer moves after selection of an action but no component is ever moved.
