cursor trails in eeschema

I have recently upgraded my Ubuntu OS to version 18.04.1, which includes a newer version of KiCAD:

eeschema with a new or existing schematic leaves trails of cursors / crosshairs all over the screen. These trails are erased if Redraw or Grid on/off are chosen from the menu, but moving cursor still leaves trails.

Whh are you not on kicad 5.0.0 on cosmic? Also, this is probably becausr of the wxpython and gtk3 issue.
