Different origins (user origin, grid origin etc.) could be used as snapping points.

I'm assuming you mean the board and/or footprint editors since you did specify.

Correct, I wrote this quickly after commenting on this one: https://bugs.launchpad.net/kicad/+bug/1792699 (so that selecting a snap point could replace selecting an item/origin in Position Relative dialog).
